Ana Lily Amirpour made her first film at the age of 12; a horror movie starring the guests of a slumber party.  She comes from a varied background in the arts, including painting, sculpting and playing bass and singing in a rock band.  Her feature-length script THE STONES, a volatile drama about youth culture in modern-day Tehran, was grand prize winner of the 2007 Bluecat Screenwriting Competition, a participant in the 2009 Tribeca All Access program, recipient of the 2009 Adrienne Shelly Fellowship and selected for Fast Track at the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival.  THE STONES is being produced by German-based Brave New Works with Ana Lily attached to direct in 2011.

 

She has directed a number of award winning short films and music videos including the 2008 short, SIX AND A HALF, which screened at Slamdance, Nashville, Brooklyn and Milan.  Her 2010 short TRUE LOVE, a comedy about sex and relationships, was audience award winner at Milan Film Festival.  Her most recent short film, KETAB ‘The Book’, a scene from THE STONES, will screen at the 2010 Salento International Film Festival in Italy.

 

Ana Lily was recipient of the Dini Ostrov Award in Comedy Writing in 2008 and is most recently a participant of the 2010 Talent Campus at Berlinale.  She is co-founder of Say Ahh… Productions, an LA-based production company creating cutting edge film, television, music video and web content.  She finished her MFA at the UCLA Film School and lives in Los Angeles.
